The 26th Mile effort is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s “Beyond the Bell” Youth Development Program, teaching students in 150 area schools the importance of combining healthy and nutritional choices with physical activity.
This eight-week program educates students about the importance of healthy eating habits and exercise. The students are challenged to run 25 miles in short increments leading up to the 26th Mile. Approximately 25,000 children in grades K-5 participate in the program, with more than 6,000 running their final (26th) mile at Dodger Stadium.
