At The McCourt Foundation, we are privileged to work with over 125+ charity partners. While every organization we partner with brings a unique mission to the start line, some stories capture the raw spirit of the human heart in a way that stays with you long after the race is over. This is the story of the Live Like Braun Foundation.
Braun Levi was a young man who defined “fearless.” As a high school senior, Braun decided on a whim that he could, and would, run the ASICS Los Angeles Marathon. He crossed the finish line, simply wanting to prove that you can do hard things. It was a perfect reflection of how he lived his life: with courage, enthusiasm, and a desire to do good.
Tragically, Braun’s life was cut short, but his spirit has since become a catalyst for a massive community movement. What began as a group of friends wanting to run in his honor has grown into a team of 65 participants. Most of these runners aren’t seasoned marathoners; they are students and adults choosing to “Live Like Braun” by taking a risk and pushing their limits together.
“I hope Braun is watching… he would love this so much because this is what he lived for. He lived for excitement. He lived for people doing things together and lifting each other up.” — Jennifer Levi
Making an Impact
The funds raised by this incredible team aren’t just numbers; they fuel three vital pillars that keep Braun’s legacy alive:
Scholarships: Providing financial aid to graduating high school students who embody Braun’s drive, passion, and enthusiasm.
Community Spaces: Investing in the rebuilding of public tennis courts—like the ones Braun grew up on—to ensure every child has a place to play, regardless of their background.
Impaired Driving Awareness: Leading workshops in schools with law enforcement and attorneys to educate young drivers on the importance of making a plan.
A City United
When you see the sea of Run Like Braun uniforms on the course, you are seeing the best of Los Angeles. Today, 65 of Braun’s friends and supporters are running together in his honor, carrying his story forward.
Braun often said his favorite part of the marathon was running through every neighborhood and experiencing the different cultures and celebrations of the city. Today, his foundation continues that celebration by turning grief into action and tragedy into a movement of hope.
We are proud to stand alongside the Live Like Braun Foundation as they show the world that we can do hard things, and that we can do them together.
