Los Angeles Road Runners Presented by VOLVO Launches Its New Season With Digital Programming Geared Towards Keeping The Los Angeles Running Community Together and Engaged
July 16, 2020, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – The Los Angeles Road Runners presented by Volvo, the official training program of the Los Angeles Marathon presented by ASICS, launches its 2020-2021 season today with a series of free virtual events to promote connectivity within the LA running and walking community during socially distant times.
The LA Road Runners program will be opening with a full schedule of virtual health, training, and fitness-focused social events in the lead-up to the official start of the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon training season, which begins the week of September 13th, 2020 with the Santa Monica Classic 5K & 10K Virtual Race.
New, more accessible membership options for The McCourt Foundation’s community-based program will provide approachable training material and access to experienced pace leaders and coaches to help runners and walkers of all levels achieve their marathoning goals.
“Now more than ever people need a positive, grounding personal outlet, which running and walking can provide,” said Maria Miller, LA Road Runners Program Coordinator and an RRCA certified race walking coach. “Running and walking is for everyone––in the last year we have doubled our walking pace groups from 3 to 6 and currently have 65 experienced pace leaders who support our members throughout their training journeys.
The LA Road Runners has developed the virtual event schedule with the help of its diverse and expanding network of affiliate run clubs within the LA community.
“We have a wealth of knowledge and talent in the Los Angeles running community and our vision for the program focuses just as much on social support and connection as it does on marathon training,” said Murphy Reinschreiber, Chief Operating Officer of The McCourt Foundation. “We want LA Road Runners to be a platform for runners and walkers to share their passion and make positive connections across the city.”
The LA Road Runners program will host a virtual live stream kick-off event tonight at 6:00PM PDT on the Los Angeles Marathon Facebook page featuring interviews with pace leaders, coaches, and returning members.
